Lighting Africa, an initiative launched by the World Bank Group to expand and expedite development of off-grid solar lighting products, launched a consumer education campaign. The launching ceremony of the campaign was held on September 22 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the National Museum.
Lighting Africa is jointly implemented by the World Bank and IFC and it aims to increase access to quality assured solar lighting for over eight million people in the country.
The second Growth and Transformation Plan (GTP II) targets dissemination of 3.6 million solar lanterns and 400,000 solar home systems by 2020, the Minister said in his speech made at the event, adding that further financial resources are needed to meet the GTP II targets.
