Local South African Firm Hopes to Cater to Potential IPPs

Although the South Africa still lacks in having an IPP, one local firm is getting prepared for business ventures that may result from the government-approved power agreements.

Black Lite Energy is conducting a feasibility study on a thin film solar panel plant to be located in South Africa’s East London Industrial Development Zone. The company hopes to supply IPPs with locally-produced thin film while also helping to meet the government’s local content requirement. The study should be completed by November with the managing director, Ajay Lalu, saying that the panels would be sold supplying IPPs with a “component with 100% local content.”

The company is looking to raise about $245 million after the feasibility study has been completed.
