Providing affordable solar power to over 50,000 Kenyan homes, M-Kopa Solar is adding 1,000 more to that figure each week, according to its website. The company developed a proprietary, patented technology platform combining embedding GSM and mobile payments to help progress asset financing in emerging markets. The M-KOPAnet™ platform was designed and built from the ground up with the ability to process mass amounts of data.
The distributor peddles products like d.Light’s off-grid solar lanterns and solar home systems.
M-Kopa estimates that it has saved customers around $38 million based on a four-year average use of a solar system which parlays into 6.25 billion hours of lights monthly (based on an average of 125 hours of lighting per system each month).
