Kenya’s livestock industry could provide more use than just food as the Kenya National Domestic Biogas Program (KENDBIP) attempts to expand to use manure to generate electricity for domestic and industrial use.
The Kenya National Domestic Biogas Program unit has trained more than 200 people to install biogas digestors to help substitute biogas for wood, gas, and kerosene. Currently KENDBIP has built around 8,000 biogas digesters throughout Kenya hoping to add an additional 3,000 by 2014.
On plant on a small farm could cost around $1,200 with plants for larger farms running around $12,000.
