Masdar PV Moves into Germany

Release

Masdar PV expands production capacity at Ichtershausen

– Expansion of production capacity to 95 MWp

– Conversion to micromorph silicon technology

– New transparent modules to be presented at Intersolar

Masdar PV, manufacturer of large-scale thin-film PV modules, is converting its existing production line over to micromorph technology. The new modules, which will have an initial efficiency of 9 %, are scheduled to enter the market in 2011. Within only two years of market launch, the experts at Masdar PV hope to raise that efficiency to 11 %, maximizing the potential of the new module technology for the benefit of their customers. That achievement will strengthen Masdar PV’s market presence, since the company will then be offering customers even higher-performance modules. The technology upgrade is therefore an important step for Masdar PV: a milestone on the road toward achieving its mid-term goal of establishing itself as one of the leading manufacturers in the thin-film PV module segment.

The experts at Masdar PV are accustomed taking the technologies they develop to their outermost limits and beyond: they have already reached peak efficiencies of up to 8 % with their current a-Si products. Furthermore, they have developed transparent modules, to be presented for the first time at the Munich Intersolar (Hall A1, Stand 340). These new modules are ideal for façade-integrated PV installations and open a new market segment for Masdar PV. Masdar PV’s range of products is also being expanded.

Conversion of the existing production line to micromorph technology is currently underway. The first micromorph solar modules will be available on the market this very year. "This means an even more advantageous cost-benefit ratio for our customers", says Dr. Matthias Peschke, COO at Masdar PV. That advantage renders Masdar PV modules very attractive – particularly for use in large-scale projects.
