South African power utility Eskom suspended four of its senior executives in mid-March, including Chief Executive Tshediso Matona; Matona is now challenging that suspension.
The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) received a referral for “unfair suspension” from Motana, and that it was looking into his complaint.
The South African utility firm also saw a one day strike launched on March 25 at its Medupi power plant. The workers launched the strike in protest to poor living condition and are demanding higher pay at the facility.
Eskom’s Medupi power plant is currently under construction.
“They are doing this especially to black workers, there is no white person staying in that hostel. This is discrimination,” said Steve Nhlapho on Talk Radio 702.Nhlapho is an organizer at the National Union of Metalworkers.
