Mauritius Wind Farm Online Next Month

Mauritius’ Plaine des Roches wind farm is scheduled to be operational next month according to a statement released by the government. The first phase will produce 9.35 MW of power, utilizing 11 turbines.

The announcement follows after a recent visit to the farm by minister of Energy and Public Utilities, Ivan Collendavelloo, to evaluate the progress of work for the installation of the wind turbines.

According to the release, Eole Plaine des Roches will be in charge of the wind power plant for 20 years and the power produced will be sold to the public utility, Central Electricity Board (CEB), and fully injected into the national network.

The $12 million project, which is at a pilot stage, might see an additional ten wind turbines added in the second phase, Collendavello said.

The second phase of the project will launch shortly after the first phase comes online.

According to the CEB general manager, Gérard Hébrad, the setting up of the wind farm is in line with the policy of the utility to accommodate renewable energy facilities.
