On Saturday morning, Islamic extremists carried out a deadly attack on villagers in northeast Nigeria’s Borno state. Reports have at least 43 farmers killed and dozens of villagers still missing. The massacre included gruesome beheadings.
A regional UN official, Edward Kallon, said “The incident is the most violent direct attack against innocent civilians this year. I call for the perpetrators of this heinous and senseless act to be brought to justice.”
Security forces continue to search for the missing who villagers fear are also dead. The attack took place while the farmers were harvesting their crops.
As yet, no group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attacks.
