Mozambique could add more power to its grid through renewable energy. Through Resolution No. 67/2014 of December 9, 2014 the Council of Ministers authorized the negotiation of a new concession, in the form of public private partnership to the company to be incorporated between the state-run electricity firmElectricidade de Moçambique, E.P. and SHEZA, Lda.
The concession is for the design, finance, management and operation of the Chemba hydropower plant, having a design capacity of 1,000 MW.
In addition the Ministry of Energy approved, by way of Ministerial Order No. 184/2014, of November 12, 2014 the National Power Grid (REN) Code, which sets forth the rules and procedures to the operation, planning, and exploitation of the facilities comprised in the REN code.
