South Africa’s Energy Minister Dipuo Peters has signed a proposal to build more nuclear power plants which is expected to come to a Parliamentary vote in the near-term. She said that she expected the cabinet to approve the plan by the end of the year with the bidding process to begin in 2012.
The first plants are expected to provide 9,600 MW of power by 2025, equivalent to 25% of South Africa’s current total energy generation.
