At least 18 people are dead following a restaurant attack in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso’s capital. Authorities suspect Islamist militants carried out the attack. The militants were killed by security forces as they attempted to free the people trapped inside the restaurant.
“This is a terrorist attack,” Communications Minister Remi Dandjinou told a news conference.
This is not the first time that militants have targeted a restaurant in the capital city. In January 2016 there was a similar attack on a restaurant and hotel in which 30 people were killed. That attack was carried out by the Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, or AQIM.
