Russia and Morocco are planning to increase their collaboration in the energy sector, specifically in the renewable energy sector. This includes nuclear energy. The cooperation was revealed during a visit to Moroccoby Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
"The potential for cooperation is quite significant. We are discussing further cooperation in the field of nuclear energy and renewable energies, " the Russian official said after a meeting with his Moroccan counterpart, Saad Eddine El Othmani.
Although the country has not yet expressed any ambitions in the nuclear sub-sector, it did call on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in 2015 to assess its capabilities to start a nuclear program.
Morocco is counting on the share of renewable and clean energy in its energy mix to reach 52%, as part of the fight against global warming.
