In a press release issued February 3, Namibia’s independent power producer Arandis Power has offered South Africa’s state-utility Eskom 120 MW of flexible power generation. The offer falls within the framework of South Africa’s December Request for Information (RFI) made by its Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, in accord with the country’s “Risk Mitigation Power Procurement Program.”
“The Department of Mineral Resources and Eskom have identified that there is a power generation gap in South Africa of 4,000 MW in the short to medium term, and propose that of this, 2,000 MW be supplied from dispatchable power sources comparable to that offered by Arandis Power from Namibia,” said Arandis managing director Ezio Vernetti.
The Arandis Power 120-MW heavy fuel oil power station would enable the company to deliver up to 120 MW of flexible power generation at a minimal cost and minimal timeframe.
