Nareva and Enel Green Power have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with ONEE (Morocco’s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water) relating to the 270 MW capacity Jbel lahdid wind farm in Essaouira.
The Jbel Lahdid wind farm, with an installed capacity of 270 MW, is located about 25 km northeast of the city of Essaouira. It will mobilize an investment of around 2.8 billion dirhams. The commissioning of this third park of the 850 MW Integrated Wind Program will be gradual and is scheduled for the first half of 2023.
Morocco’s 850 MW Integrated Wind Farm Program includes facilities at Midelt/210 MW; Boujdour/300 MW; Jbel Lahdid/270 MW; and Tiskrad-à Tarfaya/100 MW and are part of the national energy strategy to reach 52% of the installed electrical capacity based on renewable energy by 2030.
ONEE states, “It is important to note that with the signing of the Essaouira wind farm contracts, ONEE has achieved 80% of the objectives of this ambitious wind power program. The year 2020 was marked for ONEE by the full commercial operation of the 210 MW Midelt wind farm, the financial closing and the launch of the construction of the 300 MW Boujdour wind farm and the Taza wind farm. of 87 MW and the signing today of contracts for the Jbel El Hdid wind farm.”
The estimated global electricity production of the 850 MW Integrated Wind Program will save approximately 2,380,000 tonnes of CO2 / year, which would be equivalent to the consumption of a city the size of Casablanca.
