Zambia Electricity Supply Corp. Ltd. (Zesco) said that applications for the installation of solar geysers have increased to 6,000 applicants. The power utility has installed 50 geysers in Lusaka’s Mandevu township and is expected to spread to other areas.
Zesco’s public relations manager Andre Makulu said that the procurement and logistical issues surrounding the bulk supply of the equipment had been finalized with 100,000 solar geysers coming from various sources like South Africa and China, expected to reach the country in September.
The solar geysers will help meet the rising power demands, and will also enable Zesco to sell power to other countries.
