New Life for the Dekemhare Solar Project in Eritrea

The African Development Bank (AfDB) announced that in conjunction with the Eritrean government a tender will be launched for a consultant to assist in the construction of a 30 MWp solar photovoltaic power plant.

On January 19, the AfDB published a “Request for Expressions of Interest (REOI)” for a consulting firm to provide project supervision and management. The parties have until February to submit their REOI.

The 30 MW Solar PV plant will include an associated substation, Battery Energy Storage (BESS) and connection to a 66 kV transmission line. The selected consultancy will also be tasked with providing advisory services to the Project Executing Agency  (Ministry  of Energy and  Mines, or MoEM) and  capacity  building  and  skills transfer for a selected number of client’s staff focusing but not limited to Solar PV and Battery Storage Systems operations and maintenance, monitoring and control, solar energy forecasting and incorporation into a daily dispatch program.

The project site is located just outside of the town of Dekemhare located 40 km from Eritrea’s capital city Asmara. The project is expected that the consultancy service assignment will take 38 months to complete.

A full outline of the REOI can be found on the AfDB site.
