New Research Facility Launched to Study Wind Turbines

UNEP Risø has announced the inauguration of a new research facility that will allow scientists to test wind turbine blades. The blades will be tested in order to determine advanced measurements that will enable the energy-producing product to adapt to changing conditions. One example is how speed has been increased by 30% to 40%.

The organization’s release stated that the growing demand within wind energy has produced a greater need to research the design and structure of the blades. “By using the latest knowledge and reinforcing the blades, we expect that the weight of tomorrow’s blades can be reduced substantially,” said Find Møholt Jenson, head of the new research and test facility.
