New Zealand Island to Run on 100% Renewable Energy

The South Pacific island nation of Tokelau, a territory of New Zealand, is planning to switch entirely to renewable energy. With a population of only 1,500 people, Tokelau will supply 90% of its energy via a $7.5-million 1-MW solar PV system. The remaining 10% will be derived from biofuels using coconut oil.

It expects to get some of its funding from the Green Climate Fund; however, as Alternative Energy Africa reported, the fund will fail to exist if developed countries do not pour more money into it.

Alternative Energy Africa is trying to reduce its own carbon footprint in 2011. Ask about our electronic subscriptions and online marketing campaigns specially tailored for individual companies.
