Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will use renewable energy to help manage traffic and security in the capital of Abuja. FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed said the project corresponded to the Transformation Agenda set forth by President Goodluck Jonathan and the Transportation Master Plan of the Federal Capital Territory.
So far, the FCT has upgraded 28 out of the 74 existing traffic light installations to LEDs using solar panels as backup electricity generators. Mohammed said that by 2015, 20 additional intersections will have installations.
