Nigerians Disgruntled at Being added to US Security Watch List

The addition of Nigeria to the US’ top security watch list has caused some consternation with Nigerians. The West African country’s addition to the list comes after the failed terrorist attack on an airliner bound for the US by a Nigerian national.

In response to being added to the list the Nigerian senate has threatened to sever diplomatic relations with the US if it is not removed from the list. Senate spokesperson Ayogu Eze said that members of the Senate were terribly “unhappy” about the development. “When we resume, we are going to take this matter very seriously if America has not taken Nigeria’s name off that list.”

Eze added that it was an “embarrassment” for the country as a whole to be classified in this way. He said their was no justification for Nigeria’s inclusion on the list as it was, as admitted to by US President Barak Obama, a failure of US security forces. “I don’t see how Nigerians come in there and moreover this is just one instance of a Nigerian who it is clearly established had no links with any fundamentalist group or any interest group within Nigeria, not even with his own parents.”

Nigeria is not the only African nation on the list Algeria, Libya, and Somalia also reside on the “to watch” roster.
