Kenya is estimated to have around 10 GW of geothermal potential, and another development can soon be added to its list. Kenya Power & Lighting Co. signed a PPA with Africa Geothermal International Kenya Ltd. (AGIL) for the development of a 140-MW geothermal project in Longonot.
Under the 25-year term agreement, AGIL will build, own, and operate the power plant expected to come online in 2018. Drilling is expected to commence in early 2014.
