Abengoa awarded a contract to Siemens for the long-term maintenance services for Algeria’s first integrated solar combined cycle (ISCC) plant. The 150-MW solar hybrid plant, operating at the Hassi R’Mel natural gas field, will be one of the” world’s most innovative power stations,” according to Siemens.
Under the terms, Siemens will provide preventative and corrective maintenance for two SGT-800 gas turbines which was installed by the company in April 2011.
ISCC technology uses heat generated by solar fields, decreasing the carbon emissions from a combined cycle power plant while increasing efficiency. The Hassi R’Mel plant generates electricity through the 25 MW parabolic trough solar collectors field and a 130-MW 2×1 combined cycle power plant.
The world’s first ISCC plant came online in Morocco with Egypt’s Kuramat following shortly thereafter (although Egypt was scheduled to become operational prior to Morocco, political instability resulted in several delays).
