RE Jobs May Not Be as Abundant as Reported

With the coverage on renewable energy, many anticipated that jobs within the field would also increase. However, Abu Dhabi’s Masdar has cut its workforce by 9% saying that it has “identified ways to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization,” in an emailed statement to the Arabian Business.

Another source told Alternative Energy Africa that with about 20 years experience in the renewable energy sector, she was continuously overlooked for candidates with experience in oil and gas. “You can cross over from the oil and gas side into renewable energy, but those in renewable energy cannot cross over into oil and gas,” the electrical engineer said.

Although Masdar claims that its long-term vision remains unchanged, the dismissal of staff was to eliminate an overlap of roles.
