The renewable energy sector is helping Kenya rise to the top of the list in foreign direct investment (FDI). The country recorded the fastest rise in FDI in Africa and the Middle East in 2015. Kenya saw 84 projects across various sectors initiated in 2015.
Projects in renewable energy, with a big portion of that being geothermal projects, aided the country in receiving Sh102 billion in renewable energy FDI.
On the FDI website a report titled “FDI into Middle East and Africa” noted that Kenya was third in terms of numbers of projects initiated after the UAE and South Africa.
Kenya’s top investors are drawn from the US, India, UK, Mauritius, Israel, Japan, Netherlands, Belgium, China, and South Africa.
