Recent Studies Reveal Potential Increase Mozambique Power Production

Mozambique’s power sector is looking brighter after recently released studies, including renewable energy, show the potential to increase its electricity production from 12 GW to 18 GW.

The country plans to focus on small-scale power generation units in the first three to four years with energy minister Salvador Namburete saying that the government is looking to establish partnerships with the private sector. “From this standpoint, PPPs are one of the options for achieving enterprises of this magnitude” Namburete said at Powering Africa: Mozambique.

The government is also looking to finish a renewable energy atlas highlighting prospective areas for wind, solar, and biomass.
