The Red Cross in Liberia is helping to power rural health facilities. With support from the Canadian Red Cross, the Liberian Red Cross, under its Ebola recovery project, has installed solar lights at 13 rural health facilities in Bomi.
The Red Cross’ latest intervention is meant to complement the effort of the government in creating the enabling environment for health practitioners to perform in an effective and efficient health sector.
The Ministry of Health has previously provided the facilities with solar panels to make their fridge systems effective and functional for vaccine storage but the Red Cross solar panel will provide full lightening at the facilities.
“We want to ensure that the next child born in the local clinics will be born in safe conditions. We are very grateful to our Canadian Red Cross partner for this incredible support which makes us proud to complement the effort of government in this endeavor,” says SaybaTamba, the Liberian Red Cross Secretary General.
The Red Cross EVD recovery project is working in 35 Ebola affected communities in Bomi since 2016 with 350 volunteers providing health messages and promoting best hygiene practices to mitigate the spread of infectious diseases including Ebola.
