G7 Renewable Energies has announced the commercial operation date of the 147-MW Roggeveld Wind Farm project in South Africa. The German firm Nordex installed the 47 turbines at the wind farm which will power over 49,000 homes in the region.
Developed by G7 and then taken over by Building Energy (Red Rocket), the Roggeveld Wind Farm in the Karoo is destined to become Southern Africa’s most efficient wind farm.
Roggeveld is to date the wind farm with the lowest ever electricity tariff to have achieved financial close in South Africa, thanks to many years of design fine-tuning and related optimizations by G7 renewable energies. Roggeveld signed its Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) on 4th April 2018 and shortly after reached Financial Close in April 2018.
Three years after being awarded Preferred Bidder, the Roggeveld Wind Farm project was first to sign its PPA among the 27 bid window winners of the government’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program (REIPPPP).
