“The UK is leading the global renewable industry in the development of pioneering tidal energy technology,” according to UK parliamentarian Charles Hendry, Minister of State at the Department of Energy and Climate Change. His comments came after visiting the Rolls-Royce subsidiary Tidal Generation Ltd. (TGL) which is currently working on new technology for tidal energy with an innovative subsea project off the Orkney Islands, Scotland.
The Rolls-Royce tidal turbine unit has generated over 100 MWh of electrical power into the national grid to date. Hendry added, “This and similar projects will be instrumental in enabling cleaner, greener tidal power to fulfill its potential as part of a diverse UK energy mix.”
