Round 2 for Abu Dhabi and the Seychelles

Abu Dhabi will venture into the Seychelles for the second time in a deal to help design the archipelago’s capital city using renewable energy.

The agreement has the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council (UPC) working alongside the Seychelles planning authority to develop a master plan for Victoria, located on Mahe Island.

Earlier, the island nation partnered with Abu Dhabi-based Masdar to develop renewable energy, initiating a feasibility study and environmental impact assessments with an initial target of 18 MW of wind power. The tests, carried out on the Mahe island, began at the end of October 2009 and were expected to take 12-15 months. On May 24, 2011 Masdar Power (one of five integrated units of Masdar City) announced that its 6 MW onshore wind farm in Seychelles was running on schedule and is currently at the tendering phase.
