Russia Gets Grip on Tanzanian Hydro

Tanzania has signed a deal with Russian company Borodino for the construction of a $700-million hydropower plant.

 

The Rumakali hydropower plant, to be located in Tanzania’s Iringa region, will have the capacity to produce 222 MW which will be sold to the state-owned utility Tanzania Electric Supply Co. (Tanesco). The project will begin construction by 2013 and is expected to be online by 2018.
