The JV between Indian giant Tata Power Co. and South Africa’s Exxaro Resources Ltd., Cennergi Pty Ltd., has announced that it is looking to strike a deal in the Republic of Congo to supply power to Exxaro’s Mayoko iron-ore project.
This is another sign of companies mining for resources like iron using renewable energy for power. And it also makes it easier for the half-owned Indian company to venture into the ROC when India’s ExIm Bank provided a soft loan to the country to finance exports and consultancy services of the Ketende hydropower project. Exxaro hopes to boost iron ore production, but to do so, infrastructure such as railways, harbor facilities, and power need to be installed.
