French construction material supplier Saint-Gobain increased its renewable energy power usage by 26% as a result of new contracts with three anaerobic digestion (AD) plant operators. About 10% of the company’s 3 MW electricity generated now derives from renewable energy sources with hopes to extend to 30% by 2015.
The company acquired the electrical output of Biomass Future Generation, Katharos Organic, and Trinity Hall Biogas.
"In 2011 alone, 26% of the power we used in the UK came from renewable sources. This deal will enable us to increase this percentage further with production starting in July 2012," Saint-Gobain’s Ireland & South Africa purchasing director Simon Cotterell said.
