Samsung Electronics is looking to deploy its solar-powered digital village throughout Africa, with the first project released in South Africa; now Ghana is home to the technology.
In collaboration with the Korean Education and Research Information Service (KERIS) and the Ghanaian government, the first solar-powered internet school was launched in the West African country. The 40-ft shipping container is equipped with 25 Samsung laptops, a multi-purpose Samsung printer, a 50” electronic board, server, internet access, and solar panels. The scheme was launched at the Dago LA Junior High School which will help provide digital technology for the teachers and students that live off-grid.
