Planning Set to Begin for First Fully Integrated PV Manufacturing Facility in Saudi Arabia

Ci design, inc. awarded lead designer and planner for new facility

BOSTON, March 30, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — ci design, inc., an international planning, architecture and interior design firm, has been selected to lead the design and planning of a new 110 MW photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing facility for the Al-Afandi Group, the first fully integrated PV panel manufacturing facility in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The first-of-its-kind project will combine all stages of the PV panel manufacturing process within one facility, including wafer, cell and module manufacturing, in order to streamline production and to compete on cost in the growing solar marketplace.

Partnering with PV Tech Group (Winchester, MA), Avid Engineers (Boston, MA) and DAR Engineers (Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia), ci design will oversee the full scope of the project, leading design efforts for the 24,800 sq. meter facility located in the Industrial Valley of the King Abdullah Economic City in Jeddah, KSA.

Design is set to begin in spring 2015.
