Scatec Solar partnered with the Norwegian Investment Fund for Developing Countries (Norfund) and Dutch developer Gigawatt Global Coöperatief closing a $23.7-million deal on an 8.5-MW solar PV park in Rwanda. Once completed, the park will be East Africa’s first utility-scale solar plant, increasing Rwanda’s power generation capacity around 8%.
The plant will be located 60 km from Rwanda’s capital, Kigali. Annual electricity generation is estimated at 16 million kWh fed into the national grid under a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Rwanda Energy, Water and Sanitation Authority (EWSA). Commercial operation is expected in summer 2014.
