Two months ahead of schedule, Scatec Solar expects to complete its 75 MW Kalkbult project in the Northern Cape in October while announcing it will start two more solar energy projects. The firm will add another 115 MW of solar PV to South Africa’s grid after signing a deal with the Department of Energy amounting to about $388 million.
The new facilities to be located in Linde (Northern Cape) and Dreunberg (Eastern Cape) was a part of the second REIPPP bid round. The plants could meet the demand of 53,000 homes and will be sold to the country’s national utility Eskom under a PPA.
