Seychelles, Australia Sign for Indian Ocean Exploration

Seychelles and Australia joined in Mauritius to discuss harnessing the potential of the Indian Ocean to create a “blue economy”. The discussions include establishing fisheries, exploring hydrocarbons, maritime lanes, oceanic resources, and renewable energy.

The Seychelles Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that a bilateral cooperation agreement in ocean resource management had been signed. Australia’s Foreign Minister is urging the potential economic opportunity presented by the energy sector in Seychelles, utilizing the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) which covers 1,374,000 sq km.
