Siemens, Gamesa Export Wind Turbines from US

The economic crisis has brought one thing to the US: a lower cost in production allowing for it to become a supplier more than its previous purchaser status. Siemens and Gamesa plan to export wind turbines built from their US factories as domestic demand stagnates before the RE tax credit expires in December.

Wind turbine sales in the US are beginning to slow and expected to plummet in 2013 if credit lapses, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. If this occurs, the US wind installations may drop as much as 95% with 10,000 jobs lost. Gamesa has already exported 102 MW of US-made turbines to the Honduras and is seeking sales to projects in Uruguay and Nicaragua.
