Sierra Leone Signs PPA with Joule Africa

Sierra Leone has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with Joule Africa for the future production of the Bumbuna II hydroelectric plant. Under the PPA, Joule Africa will form a JV with its local partner ESCO, dubbed Seli Hydropower, which will own, build and operate the new power plant project.

The electricity generated will be sold to ESDA, which is responsible for the supply and distribution of electricity in Sierra Leone.

Seli Hydropower indicated that it is working to appoint an experienced contractor and, at the same time, to finalize funding for this second phase of the Bumbuna project, which is scheduled to start mid-2018. Operation of the plant is expected to begin four years later.
