Ethiopia could see one of its most successful businessmen invest in the country’s renewable energy future. According to reports, the founder of Ethiopian construction firm, Sunshine Construction, Samuel Tafesse, plans to build a solar park in the Horn of Africa country.
“At the moment, we are exploring opportunities in power generation,” Tafesse told Forbes Africa. “I wouldn’t want to give away too much but we have currently teamed up with Globeleq – one of Africa’s leading power companies to establish a 100 MW IPP solar park in Ethiopia," said Samuel.
Ethiopia, which is turning itself into one of the continent’s renewable energy powerhouses, has begun to embrace solar energy. The country has a number of projects on the books and in the planning stages as it looks to address its own energy needs and export excess power to neighboring countries as a revenue generator.
