The Zanzibar Solar Energy Association (ZSEA) has begun distributing solar lamps to secondary schools in Zanzibar to help students study in the dark while also pushing renewable energy.
Under the One Child, One Light project, supported by the Deuche Tanzania Partnership (DTP), 21 schools have benefitted. Each school is provided a maximum of 40 lamps. Each school contributes a small fee to cover maintenance costs.
One Child, One Light also provides employment opportunities to at least five female students to help assemble the India-made renewable energy products.
