Solar Plant for Lesotho to become Reality

Following the opening of a line of credit by the Export-Import (Exim) Bank of China to finance the Mafeteng solar PV power plant project in Lesotho, construction works are set to begin in Q1 2021. China Sinoma International Engineering will undertake the construction works.

The project is to be carried out in two phases and will be constructed over 220-hectrares in the Mafeteng district, located about 76 km south of Maseru, the capital city. The first phase will see the construction of a 30 MW plant. After a period of monitoring and evaluation of the first plant, the second phase involving the installation of a 40-MW solar power plant, will begin.

The facilities will later be transferred to Lesotho Electricity Co after a set knowledge transfer period.
