Algeria added to its power generation capacity over 2015, with 268 MW coming in the form of new solar PV capacity. SKTM, a subsidiary of state-run Sonelgaz, led the boost in solar capacity.
Algeria’s expansion of its energy capacity is in line with its 2030 target of 22 GW of renewable energy capacity. Sonelgaz, which among other things is in charge of Algeria’s renewable energy sector, is also looking to reduce power usage by 9% through greater efficiency.
The North African country currently has renewable projects underway and Sonelgaz is expected to issue more announcements on the sector over 2016.
