South Africa Airline Hosting Project Green

Kulula Airlines of South Africa is setting a “green way” benchmark for others to follow.  It will become the first airline in SA to go green. Kulula has taken steps towards offsetting its carbon emissions by upgrading its fleet. According to Business Day, the Kulula Fleet has upgraded from Boeing MD-82s to newer and more fuel-efficient Boeing 737 aircraft.

Project Green, initiated by Kulula airline, is attempting to raise funds for the planting of trees in order to reduce its carbon footprint. The airline has created an opportunity for online users to contribute towards greening rural communities and schools throughout South Africa through Project Green, when making airline bookings. Donor customers can choose to add an additional R10 – R200 to their booking fee.

“With 600,000 people using our website each month, we believe that we can raise a substantial amount from online users,” CEO Gidon Novick, told Business Day
