South Africa just granted 17 renewable energy projects preferred bidder status under its last round of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Program (REIPPP), but investors are also eyeing Namibia and Botswana.
Aaron Somolekae, Principal Engineer at the Department of Energy of Botswana told CSP Today that the “bankable feasibility study recommended 100MW as a PPP/IPP model, whereby Botswana Power Corp. will have a stake and an IPP/developer will have the majority stake. The amount of local private content will also play a small role. There may be potential for another 100 MW as well.”
