South African renewable energy expert Jasandra Nyker has returned to her native country of South Africa to lead alternative energy company BioTherm Energy. The new CEO will help the IPP focus on developing, acquiring, and financing wind and solar projects.
Nyker’s appointment as CEO of BioTherm came just weeks before South Africa’s Department of Energy released its RFP (Request for Proposals) for the supply by independent power producers of 3,725 MW of renewable energy – including 1,850 MW and 1,450 MW respectively for wind and PV solar projects.
“With regulation now in place for the rollout of the renewable energy sector in South Africa, we are pleasantly surprised with the allocations for wind and solar – which is where the bulk of BioTherm’s attention is focused,” Nyker said. “We believe that the emergence of this sector is well poised to promote economic development and job creation in South Africa and BioTherm is eager to play its part,” she adds.
