South Africa’s Largest PV Plant Inches Closer

One of the first projects approved under South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Program (REIPPP) will begin in January. JinkoSolar Holding Co., Ltd. signed a contract to supply WBHO-Building Energy (Pty) Ltd. with 81 MW of PV modules for the solar park project in Gamagara Local Municipatlity in South Africa’s Northern Cape.

 

The Chinese company will start delivery of the total 344,540 PV solar panels for the project, expected to generate about 146 GWh, with shipments beginning in Q1 2013. Shipments will be completed by the end of 2013.

 

"This 81 MW supply contract marks an important milestone for both JinkoSolar and our partner WBHO-BE in South Africa," said Xiande Li, Chairman of JinkoSolar. "Thanks to rising energy prices, an abundance of sunshine and the sustainable support from government to renewable Energies, South Africa’s is on track to become one of the fastest growing solar PV markets in the world as well as one of most important emerging markets for JinkoSolar."
