Sputnik Germany expanding
Owing to increasing demand, the German subsidiary of the Swiss manufacturer of photovoltaic inverters, Sputnik Engineering, is relocating from Stockach to Neuhausen
Biel, 23 May 2008. Mid-May saw Sputnik Engineering GmbH transfer its operations from Stockach on Lake Constance to Neuhausen, near Stuttgart. “This move underscores our commitment to photovoltaic technology in Germany and equips us for further growth,” comments the company’s managing director, Hans-Thomas Fritzsche.
Sputnik Engineering GmbH was established in 2001 for the distribution and related customer care of grid-tied photovoltaic inverters in Germany. 2007 saw its Swiss parent company Sputnik Engineering AG produce 188 megawatts’ worth of grid-tied solar inverters, of which some 60% were installed in Germany. Sputnik Engineering is aiming to manufacture inverters producing a total of 275 megawatts this year, and to grow the headcount at its Swiss headquarters and three subsidiaries in Germany, Spain and Italy from 150 to 220 by the end of the year.
“Germany remains our most important market – even when the feed-in tariff for solar energy is reduced as a result of next year’s amendment to Germany’s renewable energies legislation (EEG),” says Christoph von Bergen, managing director of Sputnik Engineering AG, Biel. The government’s draft amendment to the EEG provides for a substantial drop in the feed-in tariff for solar energy.
The spacious premises at Neuhausen provide plenty of room for further expansion. The relocation sees office space grow from 350 to 500 square metres and warehousing space double to almost 1000 square metres. A further 500 square metres are available as and when needed. This allows Sputnik scope for handling short-term fluctuations in demand. Customer proximity has also been improved: Neuhausen is on the Esslingen motorway access, not far from the ICE railway station and Stuttgart Airport.
