A new face has been added to the Desertec Industrial Initiative (DII) as management and technology consultancy BearingPoint announced its commitment to the Sahara desert solar project.
As an associated partner, BearingPoint will support the biggest private sector industrial initiative for sustainable and climate friendly power generation, and will participate actively in the conception and implementation of various projects.
"Desertec is a visionary, global concept. Launching the Industrial Initiative is the first step towards its realisation in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Desertec has significant ecological and economic potential. It has global impact and is of high political relevance. We are convinced of both the initiative’s urgency and feasibility, and we want to contribute our share," says Peter Mockler, Managing Partner of management and technology consultancy BearingPoint. "The challenge is to direct a process in which some of the major transnational energy and technology groups are actively involved, and to make it a success. As a partner, we add our management capabilities and operational skills as well as our expertise within the technology and energy sector."
Paul van Son, CEO of the DII: "A growing number of renowned partners fuels our initiative. Every new partner signals decision makers in energy and economic policy that our concept is a significant step towards long-term security of energy supply and climate protection, and that it is worth being supported by a favorable framework."
