The 19th World Petroleum Congress Aims for Zero Emissions
For the first time in its history, the World Petroleum Congress will be offsetting all its carbon emissions.
The Spanish Organising Committee of the 19th World Petroleum Congress has decided to offset the greenhouse gas emissions from the event. This is the first time in its history that the Congress will endeavour to offset all its carbon emissions. The organisers will be using organisations dedicated to the development of standardisation and certification in this area to help achieve this goal.
The majority of the greenhouse gas emissions will be produced by delegates travelling to the Congress and the associated exhibition. Other factors such as energy consumption used during the event will also be taken into account.
With the aim of neutralising these emissions, the 19th WPC will be offsetting its emissions by investing in projects in developing countries. These will be new auditable activities where real reductions of greenhouse gases will take place.
After carrying out an inventory the organisers will employ a certified verifier to provide an official “Offset Emission” certificate to the 19th World Petroleum Congress.
